Many reviewers noted its extreme open-endedness, the variety of its mini-games, and its off-beat style. Space Rangers 2 attracted mainly positive reviews from the gaming media. Sources of income for the player character include trading, piracy, completing missions for various factions, mining, and deploying research probes. The player character can gain experience points and improve skills, and the player character's ship can be upgraded as the player earns more cash. The game also features an arcade shoot 'em up mode, and text-based missions that include interactive fiction and logic puzzle elements. The game also includes a 3D real-time strategy engine for planetary battles, with the option to control units within the RTS engine to play the battles as third-person shooters. Space travel takes place in a third-person perspective turn-based 2D engine. Space Rangers 2 combines multiple gameplay modes. The player begins the game as a trainee member of the Space Rangers – a corps of pilots charged with defending the galaxy from the Dominators. There are three Dominator types, each at war with each other: the Blazeroids, the Kelleroids, and the Terranoids.

Sentient combat robots known as Dominators are attacking the five civilizations of the Coalition: the humans, the Maloqs, the Pelengs, the Faeyans, and the Gaalians. And apparently the originals aren't available anymore because of some issue related to mp3 licensing.Īt least search functionality is a lot better.Space Rangers 2 is set in the year 3300. Except the original equipment is still there, with no weird modifiers. And my radar increases my gripper range but makes me a worse trader. And my gripper makes my missiles do more damage. Now my scanners make my engine go faster, increase frag damage a bit, and cost me charisma. There's all sorts of new options at the different space stations like upgrading them and a bunch of other stuff. it's instead the default and you can't turn it off without a bunch of file downloads from a russian website. It's like something you would install as a mod after you got bored of the original game except. Its odd to have them control so much of the galaxy and change so much of the original game world.

I guess the pirate faction is OK? It feels shoehorned in and the balancing is a little weird. SR2 with 50 mods installed that weren't really that well thought out. I kind of like some of the changes but the game feels like. Playing this again after playing the original ~10 years ago.
